News, Teachings & Annoucements from BLCS

Biblical Life Student Update (BLCS & NCI)

Videotaping New Series

We have started videotaping our new series on "The Feasts of the LORD and Their Spiritual Significance in the Life of the Believer." We have already taped and edited the first session. The second session will be re-taped this week. For some reason, the sound cut out half way through the session and was not recorded. We were teaching on "The Basics of Understanding Babylon." The enemy is trying hard to keep his secrets . . . well, secret. It is not going to work. We have expended the prayer cover over these sessions and taken steps to insure we do not lose the sound again.

Once we get a handle on this new venture of videotaping our classes, we will begin filming all over our other BBL series for DVD. We hope to have the major BBL classes on DVD before the end of 2010!

Problems with E-Mail

Over the past month, we have been updating our computer equipment in our office. We also found that our ISP first had a glitch in their e-mail system and then also began switching over their systems with a new merger with another company. The result is that we had SPAM filters directly with the ISP that we did not know that we had and they simply "lost" some e-mail along the way.

We endeavor to answer all e-mails within two working days. If you have e-mailed our offices and have not received a response, there is a good chance that it was lost either through our updates or our ISP. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. If you have not received a response, please resend your e-mail, and we will make it a top priority to address your needs.

National Chaplains Association

I received word this week that Dr. Varvel is in the process of moving his family and the NCA offices to their new location in Tennessee. The phones at the old office in Florida have already been disconnected. The phones at their new location will be up and running by November 10.

As soon as we receive the new contact information, we will pass it along to all of our NCI students. We will also update the NCA/NCI website.

This move has been a faith project of Dr. Varvel for at least the past eight years. Once the move is complete, services from the NCA will be greatly enhanced. Thank you for all your prayers for him and the NCA.

Biblical Life Vision Project

8075790

We have been very active at Biblical Life over the past year. The following will bring you up to speed concerning our accomplishments in the past twelve months. We have:

Completed two ground-breaking courses on spiritual warfare from a Hebraic perspective: Kingdom Authority & Warfare 1 & 2. These courses have been revolutionary for those that have taken them! We should start Kingdom Authority & Warfare 3 this fall.

Reviewed, updated and professionally published study guides for the following courses:

  • The Life of Faith
  • Biblical Life Prayer Dynamics
  • The Priesthood of the Believer
  • The Leader of One
  • Kingdom Authority & Warfare 1
  • Kingdom Authority & Warfare 2

We have also seen God begin to move in wonderful ways in our classes and local services. (I encourage you to download the new series “Holy Fire – Strange Fire” from our website. You will find it in the “No Travel Seminar” page.)

God has been dealing with me about bringing in a new phase of ministry at Biblical Life using the materials that I have personally developed for the seminary.

clip_image006I want you to imagine these same powerful materials being made available to everyone, not just those enrolled with BLCS. Can you imagine men and women gathered in their living rooms or studies going through “The Life of Faith” or “Kingdom Authority & Warfare 1” – maybe in small groups using the study guides? Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it. Now add DVD! DVD would add a new dimension for the seminary, for all the schools that are a part of the BLCS International Educational Network and for all the new families and home fellowships that would be able to use the materials. Can you see the possibilities? Can you see how many lives could be transformed and empowered? To accomplish this, I am going to need your help!

There will be several phases to this project, because it is more than just using a camcorder to videotape the sessions. We will have to update equipment, purchase new equipment and software, and learn how to videotape, edit and produce DVDs. We will eventually require some remodeling and moving /expansion of our office.

clip_image004Phase One

Phase One will involve purchasing new computers and software. This is a current need in our office anyway. The systems we are currently using for the seminary are single-core systems (running Windows XP). Although these computers were wonderful five years ago, they are barely running the software we use for publishing, keeping track of our students and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the ministry. In fact, we have been postponing many software upgrades because our current systems will not run them. These computers have got to be updated before we can move forward.

We need to purchase four new desktop computers that can run the newer software to operate the ministry and that can edit and produce videos for DVD. I have done the research and have settled on a quad-core system from HP. These systems have everything we need, to include portable media bays for transporting projects between computers. Believe it or not, we can purchase them through Sam’s Club for about $1,500.00 each.

clip_image008Phase Two

We will then purchase the first video camera that will tie directly into our PA system and that can save directly to DVD. We will change things around in our class (also a makeshift sanctuary) so that videotaping and PowerPoint will be feasible.

Here is where I am going to roll up my sleeves and go into overdrive. I have already spoken to our local men’s class. As soon as the basic equipment is set up, I will be teaching at least two nights a week. The first night, I will be updating and reteaching all the classes you already love at BLCS – this time they will be on DVD and not just MP3. The second night, I will be developing and teaching new classes such as: Kingdom Authority & Warfare 3 and Understanding the Feasts of the LORD and Their Spiritual Applications.

Although this project will double my workload, I feel impressed of the Holy Spirit that it must be done to help prepare the Body of Christ for the days ahead.

clip_image010

Phase Three – Moving and Remodeling

For those of you that have visited our office in Marshfield, you know that several years back I separated half of our office space and established a classroom for teaching. Although it crammed us into half the space administratively, many powerful classes have come out of our sacrifice. As we progress with DVD taping, we will need to move our office into another section of the plaza we are in and expand the classroom into the entire space we are now using. This will also allow us to upgrade to a two-camera system, which is highly recommended for proper DVD recording.

The cost of moving the office, equipment, and phones will need to be covered as well as remodeling to utilize the space properly. God, in His foresight, has given us a good group of men that can help with the eventual move and remodeling. We have even had one student in New York pledge to fly down to help with the work. (God is so good!)

clip_image012

The Cost

First let me say that the tuition BLCS receives will not cover this project, any more than the general offering at a Church will fund a new project. Our tuition is similar to a general offering; it covers our day-to-day operations. Just as a local congregation would need to start a project or building fund, so do we.

For many ministries, a project like this could run several hundred thousand dollars. Those of you that are familiar with Biblical Life know we specialize in streamlining and in being cost effective. It is the only way that we have been able to keep your education at the seminary so affordable. We will purchase the equipment at the best prices available; we will be able to obtain academic pricing on most of the software, and we will do the remodeling and setting up of the equipment ourselves. All of this will drastically reduce the cost of this project!

I believe we can complete this entire project for around $40,000.00. These funds would take care of the following:

  • Updated Computers
  • Updated Software
  • New Software for Video Production
  • New Video Equipment
  • New DVD Production Equipment
  • Eventual Moving and Remodeling Costs

I plan to move forward as the funds are available, step-by-step. I would love to be in a position to start filming when we start our new class on Kingdom Authority & Warfare 3 at the end of September. To accomplish this, I need your help.

Please pray about giving to the Biblical Life Vision Project. Working together, we can make this vision from the Holy Spirit a reality! Also listen to Part 3 of the message on “Holy Fire – Strange Fire” from our website. I share some of my vision for this project in that message.

Those of you, who have been a part of Biblical Life for some time, know that I am not big on fundraising. In fact, this short note about the project has been difficult for me. It is something I so rarely do; I am not quite sure how to approach it. So I am just sharing from my heart. If God is in it, He will touch your heart and we can move forward. I believe this project is so important that I have left my comfort zone of just teaching, and I am asking for your help. This is how strongly I feel that the LORD wants this done right now!

Finally, there is something else I plan to do. Since you are helping me raise the funds to make this possible, we are going to follow the tradition of Biblical Life with the DVDs. We are not going to place just one session on a DVD and charge $24.00 or more a session. That is not the Biblical Life way! Just like with the MP3 CDs, I believe we can get more than one session per DVD. We are currently charging $7.00 per session on MP3. I plan on charging only $8.00 per session on DVD! This means for a few dollars more, our students will be able to opt for DVD instead of the MP3!

Would you like to help me make this vision a reality? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to show you if you are to support this vision project with a love gift and be obedient with what He tells you. Don’t give any more or any less than He instructs you. Obedience always brings the greatest blessing!

Time for Advancement & the Fire of God

19305664 It seems like everything has come to a halt during this last year. Circumstances involved more than an economic recession. You may ask, “How do you know it was more than financial?” I know because I have received letters, e-mails and phone calls from students and ministers telling me that it seems like everything has stopped: church growth stopped, they stopped their studies, many even stopped praying as they used to, and many have lost their praise.

Somehow, we had become so intertwined with the world and its system, that when it paused, so did we. I believe this past year the Holy Spirit has been unwinding us from this worldly system. We are in the world, but we are not of the world. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God. We need to be so intertwined with the Kingdom where Jesus is Lord and King over all, that this world (and what goes on in it) does not affect us – rather it gives us a greater platform to point to the completed work of our King!

God is beginning to release a new fire from Heaven. This fire empowers, protects and purifies the believer. I have begun sharing about “Holy Fire – Strange Fire” with our congregation. This teaching has released such a powerful presence of God. Like the Children of Israel in the wilderness, in our darkness (night) God is releasing His pillar of fire to comfort and protect us. I encourage you to download these messages as they are released each week in MP3 at our congregational website. (http://www.biblicallifeassembly.org/library/weekly.htm – this new series started August 1.) Get in on what the LORD is doing.

With this new fire from the presence of the LORD, there is an anointing to burn off bondages and all the enemy has done to hold you back. This fire also releases an anointing for Kingdom advancement. It is now time to move forward in the LORD and not to “pause” with the world!

How has this recession affected you?

· Have you stopped your vision for ministry?

· Have you stopped your studies or postponed enrolling?

· Have you stopped praying like you used to?

· Have you lost your praise?

There is a fire from God that is starting to flow now that will propel you forward! It is not only time to pick back up the vision, but it is time to expand it! It is time to move forward again in your preparation for ministry. It is time to praise and pray again! Can’t you sense it in your spirit?

“Father, I lift up everyone associated with Biblical Life. I come against every roadblock, every stumbling block, and every hindrance the enemy has placed in their lives to stop their advancements in the Kingdom of God. I ask that you would release the same fire of your Spirit into their lives that you are beginning to release here at Biblical Life. Burn up every obstacle that is holding them back. Let Your presence be as a pillar of fire for them in their wilderness. Let it give them warmth, protection, provision, and advancement in Your Kingdom – in Jesus’ Mighty Name.”

Plans for Advancement

We have several projects going on at Biblical Life. The first is our current “Plans for Advancement” Tuition Special. If you are planning on enrolling into BLCS, now is the perfect time. It is time to advance your knowledge of the Word and advance your ministry!

Option # 1:

Enroll Using Plan B (Monthly Payment Plan): Pay the standard $100.00 with your enrollment and we will make your first monthly payment. This will give you an extra 30 days before you need to start making monthly payments on your program.

Option #2:

Enroll Using Plan C (Full Tuition with Enrollment): If you pay your tuition in full with enrollment, you will receive the following discounts:

· Undergraduate Programs: 35% off

· Masters Programs (up to 60 SCHS): 35% off

· Master of Divinity Programs: 40% off

· Doctoral Programs: 40% off

This special will end on September 30, 2009.

(Note: This special is good for all programs offered by Biblical Life College & Seminary. It does not include the National Chaplains Institute.)

Advancement Plans at Biblical Life

We have some exciting plans at Biblical Life that include new courses that I will be teaching here locally. What are the plans – video recording. It is time for Biblical Life to move beyond audio recordings and move to DVD. We also have plans to make these new series available for individual believers and small groups outside of the seminar programs. It will bring the transformational teachings that God has placed within Biblical Life to anyone hungry for more of God worldwide!

This is a big project and will be in three phases. We will provide a detailed plan that you can be a part of within the next few weeks. For now, it is a time for you to:

Rekindle – Receive this new fire from above!

Retool – Receive the tools and education you need to fulfill your destiny!

Refuel – Receive a refreshing from the presence of God to begin moving forward again.

Regroup – Pick back up your vision, your determination, and your momentum for Kingdom advancement!

May God bless you and pour out the fire of His Spirit upon you. May we all move forward in the Kingdom of God together to see Jesus high and lifted up in the earth!

BLCS Goes on Summer Vacation

Dear Students, Graduates and Friends:

From Father’s Day Weekend to the First of July each year BLCS closes its office for summer vacation.  This is just a friendly reminder at after 3:00pm (Central Time) on Friday our offices will be closed until 9:00am on July 1.

We hope that you will take time this summer to enjoy time with your family and extra time to spend with the LORD.  Incorporating times of sings and getting into the Word with your family can put a new level of refreshment into vacation time.

KJV Isaiah 40:31

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Mentor’s Tip: What Do We Need to Overcome Our Current Crisis?

planning.jpgBy Michael K. Lake, Th.D., D.R.E.

Over the past few months, the Holy Spirit has been dealing with me about many things. I believe He is trying to get across to all of us the real “state of the union” and the “state of the world.” Our current crisis is not really about money. Both in the medical and psychological communities, they understand that the “presenting” problem is usually not the real one. In other words, the symptom that brought the patient in for a checkup or counseling session is usually not the underlining problem. Rather it is a surface problem that is masking the real problem or problems with an individual. I believe such is the case with our current situation. Let me explain.

My Observations about This Situation

1. Money will not fix it.

Just throwing money at the problem is not going to fix it in the long run. Our government has poured over two trillion dollars into the economy. Other nations have poured several trillion more. This might give us some temporary relief, but it is masking the real problem.

2. The Hearts of Men Got Us Here

When you dig deep into this situation, darkness, hidden agendas, and greed in the hearts of men from government leaders, to business men, to the average Joe on the street created the problem. If honesty and truthfulness ruled in the hearts of men, this situation would have never occurred! Even if we could somehow smooth out the difficulties and stabilize the markets, financial systems and businesses, what lingers in the hearts of men will bring us right back to face an even greater disaster in the future.

3. Much of the Church has Stopped Being Salt in the Earth

Jesus told us:

Matthew 5:13 (NKJV)
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

Barne’s Notes gives us insight into this salt:

“Ye are the salt of the earth. Salt renders food pleasant and palatable, and preserves from putrefaction. So Christians, by their lives and instructions, are to keep the world from entire moral corruption. By bringing down, by their prayers, the blessing of God, and by their influence and example, they save the world from universal vice and crime.”[1]

I would also add to this that we are supposed to make the world thirsty for the things of God.

I believe the Church has grown too comfortable with the world. We have drank too many times from their waters; desiring recognition from the world over the approval of Heaven. We are more consumed with marketing than holiness: Hollywood hype over the Holy Spirit and psycho-babel over the anointing in the preaching the God’s Word.

We need to realize that we have been going down the wrong road at dangerously high speeds. The only way we can turn things around is to STOP and turn ourselves around. God is calling us to return, restore, and advance in the right direction.

Steps in the Right Direction

Over the past few weeks, God led me to start teaching on “Partnership with the Holy Spirit.” In the process of seeking His face and preparing these messages, I saw new things about the Holy Spirit that I had never seen before. I believe these new insights will prove invaluable in the days ahead.

The Holy Spirit – More Than a Force to Use

In Charismatic and Pentecostal circles, we always speak of the power of the Holy Spirit. Over the years, I have seen the power of God do some amazing things! I have seen divine provision, divine protection and divine healings. As we have moved further from the last wave of God that produced the Charismatic movement, I see some disturbing trends:

· Christians baptized in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues are but remaining relatively powerless in their lives. They produce lots of shouting and dancing, but little more.

· Christians (and ministers) are treating the Holy Spirit more like He is the “force” off of Star Wars than the manifestation of Almighty God in the earth.

We Need to Renew Our Reverence for the Holy Spirit

In John 16, Jesus knows the time is drawing near to lay His life down on the Cross. There is so much more He wants to share with His disciples to prepare them for the future. Let’s take a closer look at this conversation:

John 16:5-15 (NKJV)
5 “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

First, to really understand what is happening here, we must put it back into its historical perspective. These men had answered the call to “come follow Me.” Jesus had been their teacher and their mentor for almost three and a half years. He opened up the Word of God to them like no one ever had. He trained them, corrected them, embraced them and empowered them. Now He is telling them that He is leaving. He immediately sensed that sorrow was overwhelming them. He goes on to tell them that the Holy Spirit is going to pick up where He left off. In other words, the Holy Spirit was going to become their teacher and their mentor!

A true mentor is someone that you respect. A mentor’s words will hold great significance to you. A mentor will not only speak fresh insights into your life, but will also help you face the things that hold you back. You always consider a mentor’s time precious and his insights invaluable. You will quickly receive any correction from a mentor, because you know he has your best interest at heart. You would never think of not recognizing him when he comes to you or to quickly dismiss his instruction. His wisdom and experience stand in great contrast to your own! If you offend him, he will simply involve himself with those that value his time and wisdom.

Paul warns us:

Ephesians 4:30 (NKJV)
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

We constantly seek the Holy Spirit to empower us. We need to understand that without His mentorship, we open the door to the leading of other spirits to empower our fresh! It is time for us to give the Holy Spirit His due, repent of grieving Him because we would not allow Him to mentor us and to give Him the respect of a cherished teacher and mentor. God is calling us into a covenant relationship of being mentored by His Spirit.

Because we have not allowed this mentorship process to occur with purpose and power, we have become too worldly. The spirit of the world seems to hold greater sway with the Church than the Spirit of the Living God. If the nations of this world are going to be won for the LORD, the Church needs to throw off its “worldliness” and once again embrace the Kingdom of God with a passion that cannot be denied. We need mentorship. We need correcting. We need adjusting. We need empowering. In short, we need the Holy Spirit to mentor us like never before!

I want to end where I started in Matthew 5:13. If the salt has lost its ability to preserve, men will trample it under foot. I believe this is what is happening with all the anti-Christian agenda that fills the media and secular education today. Is it persecuting the godly or fulfilling the warning Jesus gave us about salt than is no longer salty?

The only way we can become “salty” again is through the mentoring ministry of the Holy Spirit. It is time to answer His call!

Partnership with the Holy Spirit Series: We are posting each new message in this series at our congregation website the week after it is recorded. These posting are in MP3 and are available for free download.

Free No Travel Seminars

We have all been there.  You want to develop spiritually and have a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit blow into your life, but the nearest conference or seminar is hundreds of miles away!  To make things more challenging, with the economy, you can’t afford the long trip, costly hotel stays or the extra food expenses.

BLCS has been on the cutting edge of nontraditional ministerial education for over 27 years.  We are bringing the same concept of external studies to external seminars.  All you need to do is download the seminar, print the seminar manual and you are ready to feed your mind and spirit on anointed ministry.  These seminars are made available free to anyone hungry for the Word of God.  We also give you an opportunity to receive college credit for completing the seminar and the additional work.  This, of course, is optional and is only for those that want to official continue their education.

For those new to Biblical Life, this is a chance to see if BLCS is right for you.  Do the teachings speak to your heart, increase your knowledge of the Word and how to walk with God, and do you feel what you received will prepare you for life and ministry?  If these free seminars do that, just imagine what is in store for you once you get into the meat of the BLCS programs?

We will be adding new seminars as they are developed.

Isaiah 55:1 (NKJV)
1 "Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.

Prayer Request

I received the following prayer request from my dear colleague, Dr. John Looper:

====================

As many of you know, Pastor John McDonald has been battling major life challenging health problems for nine years now. The last eighteen months have been very critical for him, to say the least!

As of last week, Pastor John’s doctors have given him about three months to live. Presently, he is taking 180 milligrams of diuretics, with a booster, and still is not able to void the fluid, quickly enough, because of his failing heart and liver. He has also been informed by his doctors that he is now in the beginning of Kidney failure.

I know that everyone of you have been fighting this battle Pastor, through prayer, for a long time. We are at a juncture, at which, the Lord has to perform a miracle for Pastor John, or else there is little more that he or his doctors can do to stop the inevitable consequences.

I’m asking all of you to fast and pray for Pastor John, for his wife Connie, his family and for his congregation at New Temple Grove Ministries in Chesapeake, Virginia. We need a miracle from the Lord!!!!!

My heart is in agreement with your hearts!

Blessings to all!

Dr. John Looper

Study Tips

Quantum Note-TakerI am always looking for useful tools our students can use to enhance their work and studies at BLCS.  Recently I ran across a small book titled “Quantum Note-Taker” by Bobbi DePorter.  This short, but useful book teaches two things:  (1)  How to take notes using both sides of your brain and (2) how to use Mind Mapping to increase the effectiveness your notes and remembering more of what you study.

This book peaked my interest since I have been using Mind Mapping for years.  Mind Mapping was developing by a researcher named Tony Buzan more than 20 years ago.  He set out to find how the brain learns, remembers and develops.  He found traditional, linear models of learning were counterproductive.  The brain simply was not designed to learn in that way.  What also peaked my interest is that Mind Mapping will start in the middle of the page and develop thoughts and ideas clockwise around the main topic – just like how the Jewish Talmud is designed.  Maybe Tony Buzan discovered what the Rabbis have known for centuries.  Your guess is as good as mine.

More effective notes and Mind Mapping can improve what you receive and retain from your lectures at BLCS.  Personally, I do something similar with every sermon and teaching I hear.  Once you get the hang of Mind Maps, you can use them for other things, such as (1) brainstorming, (2) organizing notes for essays, articles and books, and (3) project planning.  The uses are almost endless.

Here is the link at Amazon.Com for the book on the Quantum Note-Taker by Bobbi DePorter

Here is the link for the book “Using Both Sides of Your Brain” by Tony Buzan.  (A good introduction to how the brain learns, how to speed up your reading and using Mind Maps.)
